建築的目的是什麼？做為一個建築師的目的是什麼？是為了成為大家競相膜拜的大師？還是為社會服務？建築師該有的是能夠滿足社會需要的設計視野，還是可以一炮而紅的設計能力？
建築師的視野在於對社會文化和需求的洞見，建築師的能力在於能不能滿足需求（無論是人的需求或環境的需求）和反映文化，建築師當然也可以創造文化、帶領潮流。但是，與自然脈動、人文脈絡脫節的建築，經不起長時間的文化考驗、更經不起環境倫理的考驗；建築可以在形式上「華」，卻絕不能「不實」，否則只是淪為無關痛癢的裝飾品，久了成為令人頭痛的垃圾。
所以說 system thinking 是多麼的重要。設計出與文化和自然生態環境割離的設計根本就是虛有其表，沒什麼好值得誇耀的。
「國際風格」的建築理念漸漸演化成流於平庸的風格︰呆皮、單一、沒有地方特色 (不考慮當地的文化、自然條件、能源和物質循環) 的建築結構。這種建築物極少能反映一個地區的特點或者風格，如果在柏油加混凝土的「廠辦區」周圍還有一處沒受到破壞、優美的自然風景，就會顯得格格不入。這些建築的內部設計同樣令人感到魋味︰密閉的窗子，嗡嗡作響的中央空調，雖有暖氣，但缺少陽光和新鮮空氣，還有統一式樣的日光燈照明。這些建築本來就是為了用來擺放機器而不是為人設計的 (《從搖籃到搖籃：綠色經濟的設計提案》，頁 53)。

當前工業社會的邏輯是，東西壞了或不用了直接丟掉就好，設計產品時跟本沒有考慮其下一個可能的用途，並沒有將回收再利用納入設計考量，因此當這樣的廢物必須轉化再生成新產品時，反而需要投入更多的資源，甚至可能更不環保。要解決這個問題，要讓工業產品都能具備積極的環保效能，作者認為從源頭的設計來改變是關鍵，設計不但要考量功能，更要考量產品的長期演化；因此，產品形式不但隨機能而生，更要隨演化而生。這對任何設計創造商品的設計師及工程師而言都是一項新挑戰；過去，設計只在乎產品的創造，現在，設計也在於如何幫產品順利地「投胎轉世」，輪迴不已。

我真的很想知道以皮代替殼能將車偷輕了多少重量。既已知四分之三的車耗油跟重量有關，減少車重對能源效益有十分之大的正面影響。
p.s. 人就唔駛減磅，0.3% 的耗油比例根本就燒油/錢推車嘛…

Be subversive
In it, Teaching as a Subversive Activity, Postman and Weingartner argued that schools, because of their bureaucratic natures, cannot and will not reform themselves. That learning that is irrelevant is also pointless. That standardized tests don’t measure up. That schools reinforce conformity and mindless adherence to a “one right answer” mindset. And conclude that it is up to the individual teacher to “subvert” practices and policies that are not in their students’ and society’s best interests.
I found that school librarianship was rich with opportunities to be subversive
- We order exciting books and high interest magazines and bill them as “practice reading” materials designed to improve student test scores, when our true aim is to develop a love of reading and open young minds to the beauty and wonder of literature.
- We teach kids not just to find information, but to be skeptical of it by looking for authority and bias.
- We teach the research process, less to help students satisfy requirements in English or social studies classes, but to help them learn how to one day use information to help them answer genuine questions and solve real problems.
- We use puppets and share fairy tales just because they are so darned much fun, not primarily because they effectively transmit our cultural heritage.
- The most subversive belief of all may simply be this – that the purpose of education is to teach children to think, not simply to believe.

從溫總的粉筆字，我想起了文革的一個小故事。話說那時跟中共建交的，都是亞洲、非洲和拉丁美洲的第三世界窮兄弟。有次非洲某國領導人訪華，送不了甚麼貴重禮物，於是就將當地特產芒果送給毛澤東，毛之後轉送了一個給紅衛兵。
芒果是熱帶水果，那時候很多中國人還未見過，更何況是「偉大領袖」送來的，那還了得？紅衛兵當然沒人敢吃，就把它公開展出，借此大肆宣傳「毛主席不忘群眾」、「我們的朋友遍天下」云云。區區一個芒果，經領袖點化，一登龍門，聲價百倍，變成聖物，一如耶穌的裹屍布、佛家的舍利子，吸引了大批百姓來看，有的更一邊看，一邊唸着毛語錄。(岔開一句：共產國家特別喜歡借外國友人的禮物宣揚國威，今天在北韓的妙香山便有座專門陳列外國送來的禮物，如手機、汽車等的展覽館。)
荒謬嗎？還不算。為怕芒果腐壞，後來有人想到一個保存辦法，就是塗上一層蠟，好像日本餐廳門前擺放的「樣辦食物」，芒果更顯得黃澄澄了。據說，全國各地都想拿來展覽，但芒果只得一個，於是生產出一批塑膠芒果分派到各地。
多難真能興邦？不知道。我只知道奉承吹捧的陋習，還是震不掉。
想起周星馳主演的電影《唐伯虎點秋香》，一大民眾在唐家大門外等垃圾出爐，搶到廢紙當係寶。
為官者政績為重，人民應將視點放到他們的管理上才對。字只是堆粉，做到背後的意思才重要。

最新 9.50 版趕緊在 Firefox 3 下星期二推出前搶先登場。
一貫用的 Opera 感覺，很爽，完全沒有拖住看的緩慢感。不過 operapluginwrapper 食 memory 食得很狼，disable plug-ins 雖可以完全避免，不過就開唔到任何用 Flash 做的網頁和影片，要用到其他 plug-in 的自然都開唔到。
operapluginwrapper (UNIX-specific) 的問題在初出測試時已有，話就話已解決
